In 2002 and 2003 Citizen Works invited people around the country to Participate in
Big Business Day:

How it works: communities and campuses across the country held events to challenge corporate power. Citizen Works provided a guide and national organizing support to hold events at the grassroots.

What we suggested citizens could do
about Enron can be repeated for other worthy big businesses....

Give It Back was a national campaign to stop corporate crime, fraud and abuse. It provided background on the issue in Get Informed, to help stop the next Enron swindle:

These ideas can be replicated for other corporate offenders.

Examples of Events You Could Host
in Your Area

For several years, Citizen Works prototyped two ongoing Washington D.C. programs to model the types of events that can be hosted in your area:

      • Young Leader Exchange: For a handful of years, Citizen Works invited organizers, researchers, and advocates that will help form the leadership of the rising citizen movement to our biweekly Young Leader Exchanges to build an active network and strengthen the bonds of the citizen movement.
      • First Thursday Forums: Citizen Works convened over the course of three years a monthly meeting of top leaders at some of the nation's best citizen organizations, and with prominent guest speakers to create a space for citizen leaders to share ideas and strategies.

Community Progressive Directory

We tried to build a unique resource on the Citizen Works site, a Progressive Community Directory which planned to l index progressive student groups and organizations across the country. It's dated, but you could try to create that document for your community!
