Plant a sunflower for peace and justice

After more than two decades of activism, Sara Shannon has come up with a simple answer for the world’s problems plant a sunflower.

“I don’t think anything else is working,” said Shannon, author of Diet of the Atomic Age and Good Health in a Toxic World. “I thought, let’s let nature talk, and maybe something will happen on the vibrational level. With our human intention there’s a great power, like the power of prayer, and if a person plants a few seeds with the intention of peace — I thought it was the most simple way we could engage positive intention.”

The website describes the project as “a global appeal to all people on planet earth concerned about nuclear war, pollution, violence, injustice, and threats to the balance of nature. This simple act of planting a seed will demonstrate the energy, simplicity, and practicality of nature.”

So far, Shannon has received word from folks planting sunflowers in Japan, Germany, Yugoslavia, Hungary, and France, as well as all over the United States. She said she plans to continue to spread her message and offer free seeds where she can.
