July 31, 2002 CONTACT: Charlie Cray or Lee Drutman, Citizen Works (202) 265-6164 Halliburton subsidiaries in offshore tax havens The New York Daily News reported on Wednesday that while White House press spokesperson Ari Fleisher says "[t]he President is concerned about corporations in America who take advantage, set up operations outside of America, in an effort to lower their taxes," Harken Energy Corp. set up an offshore subsidiary in the Cayman Islands tax haven in 1989, when President Bush sat on Harken's board of directors. An analysis of Halliburton filings with the SEC indicates that while Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton (between 1995 and 2000) the number of company subsidiaries incorporated in offshore tax havens rose from 9 to 44. See the attached Excel spread sheet. See a list of Halliburton subsidiaries in offshore tax-havens. See Citizen Works' Corporate Tax Traitors web page.
