Citizen Works to lead protest at Halliburton
on the second annual Big Business Day

When: D.C. event: Friday, April 4th, 12 Noon For other events across the country: April 5th, see www.citizenworks.org/corp/bbd03.php for times and locations.

Where: D.C. event: Halliburton subsidiary KBR office at 1150 18th St. NW National events: almost 100 cities nationwide, see www.citizenworks.org/corp/bbd03.php for details

What: In Washington, D.C., Citizen Works will lead a protest outside of Halliburton's office and bestow Vice President Dick Cheney, the former CEO of the oil services company, with the "Daddy Warbucks" Award for eminence in corporate war profiteering. Across the country, citizens will be holding rallies, teach-ins, demonstrations, and other events to call attention to the different ways that unaccountable corporate power is a threat to democracy and the ways that certain corporations are poised to exploit the tragedies of war in Iraq.

Why: With politically-connected corporations like Halliburton gaining lucrative war-related contracts through secretive closed-bidding processes, citizens across the country are rightly concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability in the awarding of wartime contracts. Citizens are also concerned about the widespread connections and conflicts of interest between members of the Bush administration and the corporations that have the most to benefit financially from a war in Iraq, including weapons manufacturers, construction companies, private military companies, and oil companies.

Citizen Works' second annual Big Business Day is a national day of action to focus on the dangers of runaway corporate power and to imagine the possibilities of American people gaining democratic control of their own country.
