Announcing the formation of the Association for Integrity in Accounting,
a new public interest accounting group

What: The Association for Integrity in Accounting (AIA), a new public interest accounting group formed in the wake of the corporate scandals, will lay out its agenda. The AIA will fill a gaping void by promoting integrity and responsibility in the professional practice of accounting from a true public interest perspective. The Association will provide an independent initiative to advance positions and advocate for policies on critical accounting and auditing issues, standards, and regulations affecting the accountability and integrity of the profession and the public interest. The AIA will devote itself to restoring and maintaining the public's trust and confidence in accounting.

When: Monday, March 3, 10 a.m.

Where: National Press Club,
529 14th St. NW, Washington, DC
Murrow Room

Who: Founding accountants
Ralph Nader, founder, Citizen Works
Theresa Amato, president, Citizen Works

Why: As we have seen from the recent corporate scandals, the influence of corporate pressures on professional standards has eroded and compromised the integrity of many accountants and their firms. A healthy and just economy requires trustworthy accounting and fair disclosure.
